We don’t sign off on products until we know they can take a beating—from workwear to formalwear, our gear is Built For The Long Haul. We know our customers expect world-class craftsmanship when they buy a TS piece, and it’s an honor to meet and exceed those expectations season after season and year after year. Our buddy Chad Rohde works as a contractor, so not only does he need his clothing to perform, he knows how to spot quality construction. We recently asked him to stress test some of his favorite pieces out in the field—let’s take a look:

Black goes with just about everything (including our ultra rugged Chore Pant in British Khaki Boss Duck, as seen here), but if you’re not careful, it can fade into the background. Not so with The Western Shirt in Black Selvage Chambray, which boasts a ton of character thanks to vintage-inspired details like slanted chest pockets and a distinctive pointed back yoke.

Next up, Chad reached for The Reversible Able Vest in Arid Camo, which we launched as part of a collaboration with our buddies at Gear Patrol. We love a good vest, and because this one is fully reversible, it’s like getting two for the price of one! Here, Chad opted for the weatherproof Arid Camo side, and wore it on top of a handsome workwear favorite: The Mechanic Shirt in Slate Herringbone.

Conditions were clear during Chad’s foray into the field, but it never hurts to be prepared, so he brought the just-launched Longshore Jacket in Dark Oak Waxed Canvas. Weatherproofed the old-fashioned way—with wax—by the experts at Halley Stevensons and boasting a cozy organic cotton lining, The Longshore is a superb all-seasons piece. Peeking out from beneath it is The California in Indigo Plaid, an updated take on one of our most beloved shirting styles, developed in cahoots with Stetson.

Things took a turn for the chilly, but thankfully Chad had The Crewneck in Aluminum Terry on hand. We just relaunched this style (also available in Brick Red and Sea Green colorways), and it really showcases everything we love about French terry: it’s incredibly soft, it’s absorbent, and it’s less bulky than other knits, so it’s easy to pack in your bag as an emergency layer.

What fun is a reversible piece if you don’t experiment with both sides? While the Arid Camo side is waxed for protection from the elements, this British Khaki side is built with an absurdly rugged hemp-based blend we like to call Boss Duck. Contracting is hard work, and having the right tools for the job is critical. Thankfully, Boss Duck lives up to its name—this stuff will stand up to just about anything you throw at it, and it’ll look damn good doing it.

Perfecting The Oxford

Out of all of the garments in our closets, from tees to jeans to chinos, there may be no item more timeless, versatile, and indispensable as the Oxford cloth button-down. It’s a style so ubiquitous, it’s often taken for granted. As though it’s always been a fixture in menswear, and always will. And while the latter half of that assumption is likely spot on, there was a lot of intention and history that went into the Oxford shirt becoming the icon we recognize it as today.

Waffle: A Time-Tested Texture

Waffle knit—sometimes called thermal knit—is a type of knitted fabric distinguished by a recessed square or honeycomb pattern that resembles the surface of a waffle. Beyond its inherent visual appeal, this finish is about much more than looks.

The raised grid creates small pockets of air between the fabric and the skin, which trap warmth while allowing moisture and heat to escape, helping regulate body temperature during activity or shifting weather. So it’s no wonder why this overachieving fabric found its footing in factories and battlefields.
